DC1 – Nicolò Antonelli

In this final GECKO PhD presentation, Nicolò Antonelli explores advanced isogeometric multipatch analysis using the Gap Shifted Boundary Method (GAP-SBM), with applications in structural mechanics and fluid dynamics. The research demonstrates a penalty-free coupling strategy capable of handling different mesh sizes and polynomial orders while maintaining optimal convergence and favorable conditioning. The work is further extended to 2D and 3D transient Navier–Stokes simulations, showing that immersed IGA can accurately reproduce conventional FEM results while reducing preprocessing effort and computational cost for complex CAD geometries.

DC3 – Andrea Gorgi

In this final GECKO PhD update, Andrea Gorgi presents the development of an immersed multipatch contact framework based on the Shifted Boundary Method (SBM) and the newly extended Gap Shifted Boundary Method (GAP-SBM). The approach enables accurate contact simulations directly on complex CAD geometries while supporting independent meshes, local refinement, and efficient treatment of contact regions. Validation with Hertzian contact and gear–pinion problems shows optimal convergence and highly accurate results, paving the way toward efficient 3D, large-deformation, and time-dependent contact simulations.

DC4 – Juan Ignacio Camarotti

In this GECKO PhD pitch, Juan Ignacio Camarotti presents advances in co-simulation strategies for complex engineering problems, with a focus on fluid–structure interaction and vibroacoustics. His research compares mapping techniques for transferring data between different numerical meshes, develops specialized methods to couple beam models with fluid interfaces, and explores strategies to accelerate convergence in structural–acoustic simulations. The results demonstrate accurate predictions of aeroelastic behavior and acoustic responses while preserving solver modularity, paving the way for more efficient, flexible, and scalable multiphysics simulations in aerospace and industrial engineering.

DC9 – Philip Le

In this GECKO PhD pitch, Philip Le presents an innovative framework for CAD-based broadband acoustic analysis and shape optimization using Isogeometric Analysis (IGA), the Boundary Element Method (BEM), and model order reduction. His approach enables engineers to modify geometries directly within CAD models while dramatically reducing the computational cost of repeated frequency simulations. Tested on a sphere and a car hood, the framework achieved speed-ups of approximately 35× and 18.5×, respectively, while maintaining accuracy. This research paves the way for faster, more efficient acoustic design and noise reduction in real-world engineering applications.
